Tyler is doing great. He had a programming to help tweak the left side some. He is walking better and talking a little better. He can extend his left arm and hand. He can even write in the lines on notebook paper which is huge. Before it was so big it would not even fit on the paper. He still used his dynavox and computer for most schoolwork but likes to write his math out. He applied to middle schools and the letters are due back this week. Today he heard back from Howard Bishop and he was accepted. He has a few friends that were wait listed so that goes to show you that even in middle school it is competitive. He is still waiting to hear from one other school and then he will make his decision and turn in his acceptance letter. He is torn between following some friends and going to a school that is very handicap accessible. I am sure he will make the right decision.
Samantha is doing well. Her left foot is doing well. Although today I noticed that it is getting harder to put in her cast. That could mean that the botox is starting to wear off. They are both due for more botox in March. Her big toes are also starting to pop up and that is very frustrating for her and at times painful. She is very focused on school and continues to make good grades and really loves to learn. Her new aide, Ms. Smallwood, is great with her and the other kids. She knows when to help Sam out and when to leave her be. Her left arm is showing more dystonia and it is harder for her to do her homework in the afternoon. The more fatigued she gets the harder it is for her to write with the left hand. She goes back to see Dr. Okun Monday and they will video tape her and see where else the dystonia is. We constantly worry about her ability to eat and swallow. I ask her about it but she says she is fine and tries to laugh it off. Sammy is eating softer foods and my hope s that she will not have the eating problems that Tyler has.
Luke is great. He is very funny and full of energy. He loves school and gets upset on weekends when he has to stay home. I am sure that won’t last forever. He has his own Star wars nerf gun and he is constantly shooting at everyone. Tyler and Luke have nerf wars so if you play on visiting watch out. Luke wants to have light saber wars with me.
